Detroit LIons' Stadium (Ford Field)
Detroit, MI, U.S.A.

10,500 tons

Covering 1,750,000 square feet (165,720 square meters), the new Lions' stadium replaced the old Tiger Stadium built in 1974. Over 10,500 tons of heavy structural steel were used to complete this 65,000-seat arena which is covered by a dome. ADF's contract with the Hunt Construction Group included the engineering, fabrication and installation of the structural steel.

The installation of the dome alone represented a major engineering challenge: it was installed in two sections, each weighing over 3,000 tons each, which were first assembled on-site and then elevated 100 feet in the air with hydraulic tuggers, and fixed in place. The center section was then installed from the top, bridging the two side sections.
