3-D and 4-D Technology
ADF uses the latest generation of 2-D and 3-D software for its engineering work, drawings and models, and can produce a detailed and precise 3-D model of any structural steel projects. Accordingly, the role played by the use of technologies as a major element of ADF's strengths, resides in the innovative use and efficient adaptation of 2-D and 3-D software to the engineering and fabrication processes already in place.
3-D models are also efficient in providing fabrication personnel with on-demand, helpful visual support detailing specific complex requirements of heavy built-up steel components and trial assemblies.

By adapting and integrating existing 3-D software (such as Tekla and AutoCad) to their own work process, ADF's engineering team has opened the door to new avenues:
- Refinement of engineering solutions for special connections (such as multi-angle tubular connections)
- Modelization of all parameters of engineering and fabrication
- Integration in the global model of a sound engineering of installation (such as crane logistics)

While developing the integration of Tekla 3-D software to their own engineering and detailing processes, ADF's engineers have opened the way to new capacities in the management and control of structural steel projects.
|This integration, named « 4D TECH », allows for an extremely detailed management of the work progress for any phase of a project, from design to installation. In fact, the model developed becomes the project.|

|Once completed, the structural steel model can deliver a virtual database for anything related to the project, from raw material to schemes of installation. Hence, a regular update of the model supplies a real-time virtual image of the physical project.||
ADF's engineering team has succeeded in integrating to the classic 3-D model the fourth dimension, time, and in developing technological applications which can deliver detailed live information, such as work progress, for connections, engineering, detailing, fabrication or installation.

In order to allow all the major actors involved in a structural steel project to benefit from the 4DTECH solution and the new management capacities it supplies through the reports produced and the real-time visualization of work progress, ADF's engineers set up an exchange and communication platform based on the Web, called the E-Platform.
This platform is a communication channel and a collaboration method for the procurement of material and the fabrication of the structural steel project, a secure Web-based instrument of communication for the:
- Material procurement
- Fabrication management
It allows any member of the project team (owner, contractor, architects, engineers, draftsmen and other trades) to access the model, analyse it, and consult any of the reports the 4-D solution produces.
